Rules & Regulations

  1. All contestants must submit a video and a brief bio and photo.
  2. The length of the video should not exceed 60 seconds (one minute), and should explain why you are passionate about barbering and why you are entering the contest.
  3. All entries should include
    • Full name
    • Barbershop/Salon name
    • Location
    • Number of years behind the chair
  4. There is no entry fee.
  5. Entries may be submitted through abacanada.com starting on June 14, 2021. The deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm (eastern time) on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Contestants will be chosen and notified on or before Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
  6. All entries must be submitted in digital format.
  7. No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
  8. No professional assistance is allowed during the contest. This is your original work.
  9. All portions of the online entry form must be completed when you upload your video for it to be eligible.
  10. IF CHOSEN AS A FINALIST you must submit a signed/completed Permission Form and a signed/completed Release Form for each person appearing in your video. Forms can be scanned/emailed to: communication@abacanada.com.
  11. Weekly projects must be submitted on or before the deadline or they will be disqualified.
  12. The judges’ decision is final. Decisions will be made based on the judging guidelines and available to the chosen contestants.
  13. The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize if the entry wins.
  14. One entry per person only.
  15. All entries can be submitted in English or French.
  16. ABACanada is not responsible for any entries that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.
  17. Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant, with the following exceptions.
  18. Entrants grant ABA Canada and their sponsors the right to use their names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation.
  19. Entrants also grant ABA Canada the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the video without further compensation or notification to the entrant.
  20. ABA Canada maintains the right to reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, display, or exhibit the project for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on their website, at conferences, or at any other venues.
  21. By accepting the prizes, winners agree to hold ABA Canada and its employees and affiliates, harmless against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of such prizes. Winner assumes all liability for any injury or damage caused from participation in the contest or use/redemption of any prize.
  22. Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
  23. Contestants must be available for the scheduled dates which are set by ABACanada and Professional Sponsors. Times TBD.

  24. Finalists will receive a mannequin head for each challenge and they will have to video their work on the mannequin and upload it to ABACanada.com on or before that week’s deadline.
  25. No products can be visible in video submissions and only unbranded capes or capes with one of the ABA Barber Challenge sponsors may be used.
  26. Finalists must be prepared to answer questions about their work.
  27. Representing 200,000 beauty professionals across the country, all contestants must show integrity and respect to their fellow competitors with fairness, sportsmanship and respect to the rules outlined.
